Lifting speeds, traverse speeds & horsepower are base on a power supply frequency of 50 Hz; increase these speeds & horsepower by 20% if frequency is 60 Hz.
(2) The admissible number of starts is not exceeded. According to figure 1 the normal cycle comprises: lifting - rest - lowering - rest.
As an average 6 starts per cycle are assumed.
Selection of Lifting Motors
1-1 Intermittent duty: (ED)
1-1-1 Relative Operating period (percentage duty cycle) Under normal duty conditions operating and rest periods alternate (Intermittent duty). The percentage duty cycle ED is found as follows:
Based on a maximum cycle period of 10 minutes.
Minimum figures for the percentage duty cycle are given in table 1.
1-1-2 Number of starts/h: (N)
Minimum figures for the number of complete starts/h are given in table 1.
1-1-3 Number of cycles: (S)
The number of cycles for the safe working load, comprising lifting and lowering, is calculated as follow:
1-2 Short time duty: (S.D)
Where special duty conditions exist (e.g. long hook path) the operating period must be of such length that the admissible temperature limit of the motor is not exceeded. For such cases intermittent duty may be replaced by short time duty. Under these duty conditions a lifting motor cooled down to the temperature of the cooling medium may be operated during a certain period with the safe working load rating which corresponds to the respective group of hoist mechanism. For the individual groups of hoist mechanism the minimum values for the operating period are shown in table 1. During this operating period the number of 10 starts must not be exceeded.
1-3 Mixed duty:
Under mixed duty conditions intermittent and short time duty alternate. The admissible temperature limits must not be exceeded.
Table 1.
S = Number of cycles/h: cycle in accordance with figure 1
ED = Percentage duty cycle
V= Lifting speed in m/min
H= Average lifting height in m
The above equation applies on the following assumptions:
(1) The lifting height does not exceed the value permitted by the percentage duty cycle referred to a cycle period of 10 minutes:
This table applies to lifting motors with one speed only. With an equal number of starts, half the ED figures should be obtained for creep lifting motors (separate motor). Where lifting motors with two speeds are concerned, the figures shown apply to both windings together.
The following ratios will be taken into account:
